patriotic jewelryThe blue star flag was formed and patented in WWI by an Army Captain with two sons serving in the war; it became the unofficial symbol of a child in service. From WWI to WW2 the flag was adorned on jewelry of all kinds - including rings, pins and pendants - worn by the mothers and also the wives of those serving. A blue star like the one seen in this bracelet represented a living serviceman; a gold star would mean he died in service. The number of stars represented the number of children serving, in this case, one. While service star pins are more readily available, and still in use today, finding a WWI era locket bracelet with a service star is much more rare. This piece is dainty, gorgeous and well preserved. It is a perfect piece for the mother, wife or partner of someone serving in the military.HISTORY: This bracelet dates to WWI time frame, 1914-1918.MATERIALS: Sterling silver, enamel, silk ribbonSIZE: The locket measures 11/16" on each side. The bracelet is adjustable (see the adjustable slide clasp in the photo) - the biggest it expands is to 2.5" internal diameter. While it could fit a larger wrist, I'd say that it fits best over a small to medium size hand. CONDITION: Gorgeous condition. The enamel is intact, as are the other decorative elements of the piece. It is exceedingly rare to find a piece of this age in this good of condition. The one photo protector on the inside left of the locket is looser.A wonderful piece of history. *Please note antique ring box not included with purchase.* * * * * * * *Stacey Fay Designs Etsy homepage: StaceyFayDesigns.
